After Zubin Mehta was forced to withdraw due to illness, Andrea Marcon stepped in at short notice to conduct the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra at the Isarphilharmonie on October 7 and 8 — and proved thoroughly convincing. With great stylistic finesse and a keen sense of transparency, he brought particular vitality and expressiveness to the works. He succeeded in weaving the individual orchestral voices into a sound that was both nuanced and cohesive.

The Münchner Abendzeitung describes him as a “stroke of good fortune for the Munich evening”:

"It is a stroke of luck that Andrea Marcon was available to step in as a replacement. For one thing, he was able to take over the planned programme without any changes. More importantly, however, he is arguably the most naturally gifted and sensuous musician among today’s specialists in early music."
